But I digress. The announcement at F8 that I am the most excited about is that Facebook videos can now be embedded on other sites. By adding this simple embed code to each Facebook video that is uploaded, Facebook has greatly increased the reach potential of its videos, and that is good news for marketers.
How does this impact Inbound Marketers?
During our LeadG2 inbound strategy planning days, we help clients develop a content marketing strategy that typically includes blogging, and we review best practices for various types of blog posts. One of my favorite types of blog posts is the video blog post. There are two basic types of video blog posts, your original videos and those you embed from another site, such as YouTube.
Most marketers understand how valuable video is and want to create videos to help connect with prospects and customers. But let’s be honest, the time and effort it takes to create an original video often kills that concept for most blogs. Creating a video isn’t as simple as writing a text article and most marketers shy away from it for this reason. Or they do it poorly, which is often worse than not doing any video at all.
I thought it would be great to include a video in this blog post, but I didn’t want to spend the time and effort to create a video that recaps all of the new features announced at F8. So I did the efficient thing—I have embedded a video that someone else created (I chose a good one, so it’s not just easier, but better as well).

Embedding a video into your blog post makes it much more interesting to readers, increases time spent on site, and is a nice change of pace compared to the usual text-based posts. And unless you have access to professional video equipment, editing equipment, and talent, you are probably better off embedding a professional video than trying to create one of your own.
Now that Facebook will be allowing users to embed videos onto other sites, marketers have another great source of video content for blogs. So go find some Facebook or YouTube videos that give you an idea for a blog post or would resonate with your target persona and write a blog post about it. It’s easy to do, and your blog readers will thank you for not posting another text-based article.
